Social Events

Great Britain can seem a cold an unwelcoming place for Ethiopians when they first arrive here. Southerners, in particular, can feel isolated as the community is small and widely scattered. SEPAG periodically organises social events for southern Ethiopians living in the UK. These events range from social evenings to weekend holiday breaks.

The photograph below shows members of the southern Ethiopian community at the end of an enjoyable weekend in 2005 at Porth Cawl in south Wales. This weekend was made possible by a grant from Awards for All. Yes, it was a wind-swept weekend! But for people whose lives are otherwise confined to inner-city Britain it provided a a memorable time to relax and make friends.
